Our Story
Kāri begins with a word: karigari — the Sanskrit term for craftsmanship, skill, and the artisan's hand. It's a word that carries centuries of meaning, honoring those who transform raw materials into objects of beauty and utility.
Our work exists at the intersection of heritage and contemporary life, where ancient techniques find new expression and traditional artisans find modern collaborators. Every piece we create is rooted in rich textile traditions — from the intricate patterns of Ajrakh block printing to the fluid poetry of Ikat, from the celestial dots of Bandhani to the ancient metal casting art of Mukesh — we work with master artisans to transform these traditional techniques into modern expressions of beauty and function.
But Kāri is more than a celebration of craft. It's a commitment to the people behind it. We work directly with master artisans and craft communities across India, building relationships founded on respect, fair compensation, and creative collaboration. Their knowledge is invaluable; their skill, irreplaceable. In partnering with them, we're not preserving craft as museum pieces; we're ensuring it thrives, evolves, and remains relevant.
Our approach is slow, intentional, and deeply considered. We believe in conscious luxury, where beauty doesn't come at the expense of the earth or its people. Natural dyes, sustainable materials, and techniques that honor both tradition and environmental responsibility guide every decision we make.
Each Kāri piece carries a legacy. The hands that made it. The land that grew its fibres. The knowledge that shaped its form. When you choose Kāri, you're not just acquiring a product—you're becoming part of a story that spans generations, connects communities, and keeps ancient craft alive in the modern world.
This is karigari. This is Kāri.
